01  The situation

Something isn’t working? Need someone to configure a new computer? Microsoft 365 causing problems? Office Wi-Fi unreliable? New staff member starting tomorrow?

Afford IT can help. Our PAYG business IT service gives smaller organisations access to experienced technical assistance whenever it is required — without the retainer, the monthly minimum or the lock-in that usually comes with an IT provider.

You call when you need us. We work out what is going on, tell you what it is likely to involve, and do the work. When it is finished, so is the engagement.

02  How it works

Four steps, no strings

  1. Tell us what’s happening. Contact us and explain what you need help with.
  2. We assess the job. We’ll determine whether we can resolve it remotely, need to attend onsite or should treat it as a larger project.
  3. We do the work. You pay for the professional services you actually use.
  4. That’s it. There is no obligation to purchase an ongoing support agreement.
03  What it costs

One rate, no extras

The same terms apply to every business job, anywhere we work.

01

$168 an hour

A flat rate with a one-hour minimum. If a job is going to run past the hour, you are told before it does — not on the invoice.

02

No add-on fees

No callout fee, no travel fee and no booking fee, whether you are next door to our Indooroopilly office or at the far end of Moreton Bay.

03

Parts and payment

Parts and third-party software are quoted separately and never ordered without your approval. Payment is due on completion; business customers can ask about account terms.

04  PAYG vs managed

The difference between PAYG and managed IT

Neither is better in the abstract. They suit different stages of a business.

PAYG

PAYG Business IT is ideal when:

  • IT problems are infrequent
  • You only have a few staff
  • You don’t require constant IT support
  • You prefer to pay when work is performed
  • You have occasional projects or problems
Managed

Managed IT is usually better when:

  • Your team regularly requires support
  • Downtime is becoming expensive
  • You have significant cybersecurity requirements
  • You need Microsoft 365 actively managed
  • You have servers or critical cloud systems
  • You want backups monitored
  • You need someone responsible for your IT environment
  • Technology problems keep interrupting the business

If you’ve reached that point, we’ll recommend moving to Defy IT Managed Services rather than continuing to rack up reactive support bills.

05  Questions

Common questions

No. The only minimum is one hour on a given job, charged at $168. Nothing is billed between jobs.

For faults, we tell you what the problem is likely to involve before you commit, and we tell you before the work goes past the first hour. For projects such as migrations, rollouts and office moves, we scope the work and quote it.

We stop and tell you. You then decide whether to continue, change the approach or bring the work back another day. Nothing runs past the first hour without you knowing.

It can cover whatever you ask us to look at, but it does not include monitoring or someone watching over the environment between calls. That is what a managed service is for — see the comparison above.
