What needs to happen, and in what order
The jobs with lead times come first.
- Before you commit to the space. Check what internet connection is available at the address and what cabling the premises already has. It is far cheaper to learn it before signing than after.
- As early as you can. Order the internet connection. Business connections can take weeks, and everything else depends on it.
- Before fit-out finishes. Agree where network points, access points and the comms equipment will sit, while walls can still be opened.
- Move week. Equipment migrated, workstations connected, printers and phones working, and staff able to log in on the first morning.
- Afterwards. Return visit or remote check for anything that only shows up once people are working in the space.
Vendors, so you don’t have to
A single office move can involve an internet provider, a cabler, a phone supplier, a landlord and a furniture crew, each with their own timeline. We coordinate the technology vendors and make sure what each of them delivers fits together, so you are dealing with one point of contact for the IT side.
Where equipment is moving rather than replaced, we plan how it is shut down, transported, reconnected and tested — and who is without a computer for how long.
What usually catches businesses out
Most of these are cheap to avoid if you hear about them early.
- The internet connection takes weeks to arrive and nobody ordered it
- The walls have no network cabling, or it ends somewhere unhelpful
- Building management controls access to the comms riser
- The phone numbers have to be moved, and the old provider has a notice period
- The printer works for the person who installed it and nobody else
- Staff arrive on day one and nobody has told the system they exist
