Signs your computer needs a cleanup
If your device is showing any of the following signs, a professional cleanup can often resolve the issue without needing an expensive repair or replacement.
- Very slow startup
- Constant lag or freezing
- Low storage space
- Too many pop-ups
- Browser running poorly
- Programs taking too long to open
- General poor performance without an obvious hardware fault
Restore speed without replacing your device
Many people buy a new computer when their existing one could have been easily restored to a usable condition. Before investing in replacement hardware, a professional computer cleanup is often the most cost-effective step. Afford IT provides honest advice — if a cleanup will solve the problem, we will tell you. If the device genuinely needs upgrading or replacing, we will tell you that too.
Our computer cleaning service covers Windows PCs, laptops and Macs. We work at our Indooroopilly office by appointment or can assist remotely for software-related issues.
Five minutes of free speed
Before you pay anyone — including us — these four things fix a lot of slow computers. If they don’t, the problem is worth a professional look.
- Shut down properly once a week. Windows’ fast-startup means a normal restart isn’t a clean slate. Hold Shift while clicking Shut down, or just power off fully and wait ten seconds.
- Trim your startup programs. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open the Start-up tab, and disable anything you don’t need the moment the computer turns on. This is the single biggest everyday speed win.
- Check your free disk space. Below roughly 15% free, Windows slows down noticeably. Empty the Recycle Bin and clear out the Downloads folder first — they’re usually the biggest offenders.
- Let updates actually finish. A machine stuck half-way through updates for weeks runs badly. Plug it in, leave it on and online for an evening, and let it complete.
Stop and call us if…
- You’re about to download a “PC cleaner” or “driver updater” tool. Most make things worse and some are malware wearing a costume. This is the one step that regularly turns a slow computer into an infected one.
- The slowness arrived suddenly, with freezing or crashing. That pattern points at a failing drive, not clutter — back up your files now, before anything else.
- The fans are roaring and the machine is hot to the touch. That’s physical — dust and thermal paste — and pushing it harder shortens its life.
If it’s genuinely just clutter, the steps above may be all you need — that’s fine by us. If it’s deeper than that, you’ll know within five minutes.
