01  What we help with

Afford IT can troubleshoot, improve and install business networking infrastructure.

That covers the whole path from the internet connection coming into your premises to the device in your staff member’s hands:

  • Business Wi-Fi
  • Routers
  • Firewalls
  • Network switches
  • Internet connectivity
  • Cabling coordination
  • Wireless access points
  • VLANs
  • VPN connectivity
  • Network troubleshooting
  • Office network upgrades
02  Why it fails

Why business Wi-Fi goes wrong

Slow, patchy Wi-Fi in an office is rarely an internet-speed problem.

The usual cause is that the network was never designed — it grew. One router supplied with the internet plan is asked to serve twenty devices across two rooms, a meeting space and a back office, and it does so badly.

What we look for

  • A single router, supplied with the internet plan, doing the job of several access points
  • Access points in the wrong place, or too many fighting on the same channel
  • Staff, guest and equipment devices all sharing one network, with no separation
  • Long runs of old or damaged cabling feeding the wireless gear
  • A switch or firewall that cannot keep up with the traffic it now carries
  • The internet connection itself — handled with the provider when the fault is theirs

Where cabling needs running, we coordinate it with the cabler so the access points end up where the plan says they should, rather than where the cable happened to arrive.

03  Onsite or remote

What can be done from a distance

Diagnosis is often remote. If the connection is still up we can look at router and firewall settings, check what is saturating the link, review how a VPN is configured and change what needs changing without leaving the office.

Anything physical — fitting access points, replacing a switch, resolving a dead cable run — needs someone onsite, which we do across Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Logan. For the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast we can plan and configure remotely, but a local installer has to do the physical work.

04  Network management

Your network is now critical infrastructure

Once your business depends on its network every day, it needs more than occasional attention.

Defy IT provides businesses with ongoing network management, monitoring, security and vendor coordination.

05  Questions

Common questions

Yes. We plan, install and configure business Wi-Fi and network hardware across Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Logan, and we coordinate any cabling that is needed.

Sometimes. Where the connection is still working we can often adjust router, firewall and Wi-Fi settings remotely. Anything physical — hardware, cabling, repositioning access points — needs someone onsite.

If customers or visitors use your Wi-Fi, yes. Keeping guests off the network your staff and equipment use is basic hygiene, and it is one of the cheaper upgrades to make.

We test both. If the speed into the premises is fine but it falls apart inside, the problem is yours and we can fix it. If the connection itself is the issue, we will tell you what to raise with the provider.
