Brisbane is where Afford IT is based, and it is the one region where all three ways of working are available at once: a technician at your door, a drop-off at our workshop, or a remote session started from the desk.
The workshop sits above Station Road in Indooroopilly, which means a technician is rarely far from the western suburbs, and the city, the north side and the south side are all a straightforward drive. Whichever suburb you are in, you pay the same $168 an hour. A business in Chermside pays no more than one around the corner from our office, because distance costs us time and not you money.
The result is that businesses here can choose the cheapest route for the job rather than the only available one. A faulty laptop might come to the bench; a new office needs us onsite; a Microsoft 365 problem is usually resolved without leaving either building.
Three kinds of Brisbane premises
The building you are in shapes the IT problem more than the industry you are in.
Shared buildings and tenancies
Newstead, Milton, Fortitude Valley and the CBD fringe: offices on a floor of a larger building. The questions are who controls the comms riser, whether the internet connection is yours or the landlord’s, and how to get equipment in through a loading dock and building management.
Practices and converted houses
Indooroopilly, Toowong, Taringa, Kenmore, Paddington and Ashgrove: professional practices, studios and small firms, many in older buildings and converted Queenslanders where timber, tin and thick internal walls are hard on Wi-Fi.
Trades, warehouses and clinics
Eagle Farm, Rocklea, Archerfield and Acacia Ridge, plus the medical and retail precinct around Chermside: workshop and warehouse Wi-Fi, label and docket printers, shared PCs on a counter, and staff who are never at a desk.
When it is cheaper to bring it to us
Bench work usually costs less than onsite work for the same fault. Diagnosing a computer on a workshop bench, with the right tools beside it, takes less time than doing it on a reception desk with the phone ringing.
It is also the best place to prepare equipment. If you are replacing five laptops before a team starts, we can stage them at the workshop — updated, configured and tested — so that onsite time is only the handover. Drop-offs are by appointment, so call 1800 851 816 first; we are a working workshop, not a shopfront, and a visit without a booking often finds the bench empty.
If your premises sit near water
The 2011 and 2022 floods reached businesses along the river and the creeks, in places like Milton, Rocklea, West End and Newstead. A flooded office is bad enough; losing its only copy of the accounts is the part that sinks a business.
The useful question is not “do we back up?” but “where is the copy, and could we trade from somewhere else on Monday?” We can check that your backup lives somewhere the water cannot reach, that it restores, and that your people could work from a laptop at home with their email and files in Microsoft 365. That is a short, inexpensive PAYG job and a sound one for any premises with a flood history.
Head office here, depot or shop there
Brisbane is where we most often meet businesses split across two places: an office in the inner suburbs and a yard, depot or second shopfront across town. Two sites bring their own problems — staff who need the same files and accounts in both, Wi-Fi that behaves the same in each, and a second internet connection to look after.
We can get both sites onto the same Microsoft 365 tenant and a consistent setup. If you are opening a third location, or the two sites already take a lot of your time, read our page on when PAYG stops making sense.
Brisbane businesses that have grown past PAYG
Defy IT is based in the same Indooroopilly office. Brisbane businesses with a team of around five or more, several locations or systems the business cannot trade without are usually better served by managed IT than by repeated reactive visits.
If that sounds like you, the enquiry form below routes you to Defy IT when you select the managed options.
