Practical solutions for everyday computer problems
General Troubleshooting
We diagnose the root cause of problems rather than applying temporary fixes. If your computer has multiple issues, we work through them systematically.
Slow Computer Fixes
Slow computers often have simple causes — too many startup programs, a failing drive, insufficient RAM or a cluttered system. We identify and fix the real issue.
System Cleanup
Remove junk, bloatware and unnecessary startup items that drag down performance. A thorough cleanup can make an older computer feel significantly faster.
Hardware Diagnosis
Failing hard drives, overheating CPUs and faulty RAM all cause unpredictable behaviour. We test hardware and advise on repair or replacement options.
Why choose Afford IT for computer repairs in Brisbane?
Afford IT provides computer repairs in Brisbane for home users and small businesses who want the problem diagnosed correctly the first time. Every technician is a direct employee with tertiary qualifications in IT — not a subcontractor, and not a franchisee. We charge a flat $135 per hour with no callout fee, no travel fee and no booking fee, and we tell you before a job goes past the hour.
"IT is not just a job. It is a profession that requires excellence, dedication, and attention to detail. Everyday. Without fail."
Worth trying before you call
A surprising number of “dead” computers come good with one of these. If they don’t work you’ve lost five minutes — and what you find helps us diagnose faster when you do call.
- Do a full shut down, not a restart. Hold the power button until the machine is completely off, wait ten seconds, then start it. Windows’ fast-startup feature can carry a fault straight through a normal restart.
- Unplug everything that isn’t essential. USB drives, hubs, docks, printers, card readers. One faulty accessory can stop a healthy computer from starting at all.
- Check the power path. Try a different power point, and on a laptop check the charger light comes on. On a desktop with “no picture”, make sure the monitor is on and its cable is seated — the screen is the culprit more often than the computer.
- Write down exactly what you see. Error text, beep patterns, how far it gets before stopping. Those details often let us arrive with the right part in the van.
Stop and call us if…
- It clicks, grinds or buzzes from inside. That is usually a failing drive — every restart risks more of your data. Power off and leave it off.
- There is a burning smell or you saw smoke. Switch it off at the wall and don’t power it back on.
- You’ve spilled liquid on it. Power off, unplug the charger, and don’t charge it “to see if it still works”.
- It loops through “Preparing automatic repair”. Repeatedly forcing it off mid-repair can corrupt Windows beyond an easy fix.
These are the points where one more attempt starts costing data instead of time. Diagnosis is part of the first hour, so stopping early never costs you extra.
