01  Home office IT

When you work for yourself, or from home, your home office is the business. There is no IT department down the hall — and a dead laptop or a Wi-Fi drop in the middle of a client call comes straight out of your day.

Afford IT helps sole traders, contractors and people working from home in two ways: setting the home office up properly, and fixing it when something stops working. Our technicians are qualified employees, we tell you what is wrong and what it will involve before we start, and there is no contract and nothing to pay between jobs.

That includes hands-on repairs and troubleshooting. The computer, laptop, printer and network are the tools your work runs on, so keeping them going is part of supporting a home office, not an extra.

02  Setting it up

Work-from-home IT setup, done properly

Most home offices grew by accident. A proper setup takes a few hours and saves a lot of lost ones.

Connect

A network that holds up on calls

Wi-Fi that reaches the room you actually work in, a router set up sensibly, and a cable where a cable is the better answer. Video calls stop breaking up when the network is planned for them.

Work

Email, accounts and files

Email that works on your computer, laptop and phone, your accounts and files in one place you can find, and Microsoft 365 set up for how you work if you run a business.

Backups and security

A backup that is not a USB stick on the desk, multi-factor authentication on the accounts that matter, and work kept separate from the family computer or personal logins.

03  Repairs & troubleshooting

When something breaks, the work stops

Setup gets you working. This is what keeps you working.

If you work for yourself you cannot wait a week for a laptop. We diagnose and fix the equipment your work depends on, remotely where we can and onsite across Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Logan, and we tell you honestly when a repair is not worth the money.

  • Slow or crashing computers and computer repairs
  • A laptop or desktop that will not start, or a failed drive
  • Wi-Fi that drops out, dead spots in the office room, a router that needs replacing
  • Printers and scanners that go offline or will not connect
  • Email that stops sending, receiving or syncing between devices
  • Pop-ups, viruses and malware, and accounts that have been taken over
  • Updates that fail and software that will not install or licence
  • Recovering files after a scare, with data recovery and a backup afterwards
04  Who it is for

  • Consultants, accountants and bookkeepers working from home
  • Designers, writers, photographers and other creatives
  • Allied health, NDIS and support providers with a home-based practice

06  How it works

Tell us what is happening

  1. Tell us what you need. A fault, a setup or a question — a sentence or two is plenty. Call us or book online.
  2. We work out the quickest route. Remote if the problem allows it, onsite if it needs hands on equipment, or a planned setup session.
  3. We do the work. You are told before a job goes past the first hour.
  4. That is it. No agreement and no monthly fee. Call again when you need us.
07  Questions

Home office questions

Setting the home office up properly — network and Wi-Fi, email, your files and backups, security, printers and extra screens — and fixing and troubleshooting it when something stops working. That covers computers and laptops, printers, the router and Wi-Fi, email and software.

Yes. Repairs and troubleshooting are part of supporting a home office. We diagnose the fault, tell you whether a repair makes sense or whether replacing the machine is cheaper, and carry on from there. Many faults can be fixed remotely without a visit.

Work for your business is charged at the Business IT rate of $168 an hour. Computer help for you personally, at home, is $135 an hour including GST. If you are not sure which side a job falls on, ask when you call and we will tell you before any work starts.

We can help with your own home network, Wi-Fi, desk setup and personal equipment. Anything your employer supplies and manages, such as a company laptop, is usually theirs to look after, and we would tell you so rather than touch it.

Yes, onsite across Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and Logan, with no callout or travel fee. For the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast we support people remotely, which covers most software, email, account and security problems.
